This week in writing, we focused on stretching our sentences to make our writing more interesting, clear, and descriptive! We began by comparing “boring” sentences with stretched sentences that include more details by answering the questions of: who, is doing what, when, where, and why. Students then revisited their writing journals to find simple sentences they had written earlier in the year and practiced asking the questions to bring them to life. Today, students brought home a worksheet we worked on over several days to practice this skill. It has been wonderful to see how much more descriptive their writing has become! We are excited to put these skills to use in upcoming narrative writing tasks.
